Senior Pet Care

How your pet's needs change.

Thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, pets are living longer than ever before—giving families more precious years with the companions they love. As pets enter their senior years, their needs naturally change, and they deserve care that is thoughtful, gentle, and tailored to where they are in life.

In general, dogs are considered seniors around 7 years of age, while cats are considered seniors around 11 years of age. During this stage, regular veterinary visits become even more important. Senior pets benefit from routine physical exams, appropriate vaccinations, lab work, and dental care, all of which help us monitor subtle changes that may occur with aging.

Diagnostic testing such as blood work, urinalysis, and fecal testing allows us to identify health concerns that are more common in older pets, often before symptoms become noticeable. Early detection gives us the best opportunity to keep your pet comfortable and supported.

Some conditions we commonly see in senior pets include:

  • Arthritis and mobility changes

  • Weight gain or obesity

  • Diabetes

  • Cognitive changes or dementia

  • Thyroid imbalances

  • Behavioral changes

  • Kidney, heart, or liver disease

  • Tumors and cancer

While aging is a natural part of life, many age-related conditions can be effectively managed and in some cases prevented with the right care plan. Our goal is to support your pet’s comfort, dignity, and quality of life through individualized recommendations and compassionate care, allowing them to enjoy their golden years to the fullest.
